The lasting imprint on LCS by the late Paul Zaiser (below, right) includes announcing episode #8’s advertisement for Kittywampus; with Peter Stenshoel (below, left) classic LCS commercials for Plate Tectonics and Martian Moon Maiden Voyages, featuring Paul as Major Mark Mullins (“You can call me Mel…”).
Peter says, “Paul, despite the fact one of his eyes was effectively blind (he could not experience 3-D films), never forgot anything he read. That includes maps written in tiny Japanese characters. He introduced me to the works of Philip K. Dick.” He once sent away to have matchbooks printed that read nothing but “Mom! Dad! The Kids.” He played audio of Little City in Space continuously over loudspeakers during an all-day outdoor event in Tokyo. A well-remembered teacher in the Philippines, Paul also sought out imported rock records, and local music in clubs that he shared eagerly with friends. Paul’s inventiveness editing found sounds such as Japanese records and shortwave radio can be heard on his version of the Little City in Space show called Space Brat. “He did not have a proper microphone,” recalls Peter, “so he used a headphone plugged into a mic jack and it worked! I’ll never forget the night he “unveiled” the show for us. We were also in Japan visiting Paul in Tokyo. I remember being pleased and surprised.” Listen to the abridged version of Space Brat at Archive.org
